A Brief and Eternal Moment
For 15 years, during opera season, I drove consistently from Los Angeles to San Diego and back. It was a 132-mile round trip that occurred, almost daily. Opera fueled my soul, and the opportunity to work consistently at such a high level made the drive like a gift. It was a means in fulfilling a dream. Not only did I get to sing some of the most stirring and expressive music ever written, but I got to work with countless talented, sincerely kind, and awe-inspiring artists. I often stopped at a little lookout point along the way. I was shaping my Stelletwal fantasy novels at the time, and I would write, if I had the time. Or sometimes I just stood, my heart overflowing with gratitude, and watched as the light danced on the water.
